And Sustainability, Too
One aspect that may not be an everyday, top-of-mind function for superyacht owners and crew is sustainability — but the demand for those solutions is expanding. “There is a big drive for energy efficiency and eco-friendly practices on yachts,” says Kerkhof. The industry’s aware that changes are needed for the planet and our oceans.” The right automation and control systems can do everything from powering down devices that aren’t needed to managing shading solutions so they can optimize onboard heating and cooling.
“Crestron’s also very mindful of the various regulations and certifications that are now required to meet sustainability standards,” says Kerkhof. “Regulations can have small variations between states, countries, continents, and specific markets, however, we aim to keep abreast of them all.”
Meeting those goals — and the ability to automate solutions that meet the proper requirements — are just one more part of the big picture for the staff running the ship. “Ultimately, for operators and crew, we’re satisfying the need for a full overview of the yacht as well as control of specific environments,” says Kerkhof.
“And as for the owners and their guests, it’s all about customization,” Kerkhof notes. “Customization is personalization. And having a personalized experience is the most luxurious experience a yacht owner can have. That’s why they ordered a custom-built yacht, right?”
