Student Experiences Working With Hybrid Education
Over the past year, students everywhere had to adapt to a new education setting. Whether it be hybrid or remote learning, these big changes altered every student’s experiences. Over the past year, students everywhere had to adapt to a new education setting. Whether it be hybrid or remote learning, these big changes altered every student’s experiences. They had to get comfortable using new collaborative platforms, wearing masks in classes, orchestrating virtual projects, and learning how to adapt to a new method of learning that could change any day.

The typical day of a student has changed drastically, and every student’s experience differs. Below, three of our interns share their experiences with hybrid education and how it impacted their college career:

"I was scheduled to study abroad in Fiji during the fall of 2020 before the lockdown, so needless to say, my semester was dramatically different from what I had envisioned pre-COVID. Never having experienced remote learning, it took some getting used to. Transitioning from being in-person with social interaction to living at home and communicating through a screen required a huge adjustment. While I missed the social aspects of in-person college, remote learning did provide me with a lot more flexibility and freedom than I had before. I discovered it’s a very powerful tool.

Prior to the pandemic, I would spend upwards of 30 minutes walking up and down the stairs of our 4-story library trying to find an open conference room where I could study and collaborate with classmates. Being remote, this was no longer necessary. Having the option to attend these group meetings in my dorm was much more convenient and efficient, time wise.

Another benefit of remote learning is access to educational resources worldwide. Students aren’t limited to just their college campus’ resources. They meet virtually with tutors or study groups from around the world.

Working at Crestron gives me a sense of pride knowing that we are all working on vital technology to ensure success in a modern college/professional environment moving forward. "
— Andrew Rosen, Sales Strategy & Communications Intern

"During the past school year, I had a hybrid learning schedule where I would go in person to some classes and be remote for others. Remote learning was a lot more stress free in the sense I did not have to rush from class to class with the risk of being late and was able to learn in the comfort of my own home. I did not have to designate time to drive to class and get ready. Instead, I could use that time to prepare for my class and sign on early.

The days that I would go in person were an adjustment, as we had to wear masks, social distance, and limit the number of people in class. While the classroom looked different from past years, I was fortunate to still get an in person learning experience. I had professors that used the hybrid environment to our advantage by bringing guest speakers in from around the country that we wouldn’t have normally had exposure to. Having the chance to experience hybrid education helped me adapt to new ways of learning and grow as a student in ways I never thought I would. It also prepared me for my hybrid internship. I was more comfortable collaborating and participating in a remote setting because of the experience I had in school."
— Rebecca Cirillo, Marketing Intern

"My last few semesters consisted of what my peers joke was the most expensive streaming service. Remote learning was not exactly how I expected my college experience to play out. And while I did miss the social aspect of college, I thrived with remote learning and benefited from it more than I thought I would have.

Like many of my peers, my course schedule became more fluid, allowing me more choice over when and how I did my schoolwork. As a self-starter, remote learning gave me the confidence to depend on myself to figure things out and get things done at my own pace.

I believe that virtual education offers an effective and safe learning environment. As a result of this experience, schools can leverage the learnings of this past year to help elevate their technology and help provide students with the highest quality of hybrid education. "
— Brianna Gotian, Public Relations Intern

It’s safe to say students everywhere were not expecting to start or finish their college career through remote learning, but they were all able to adapt and use it to their advantage. Hybrid education allowed them to have more flexibility in their days and use their time more effectively and efficiently, something that they greatly appreciate.
